This blog is going to be about my experience with nail salons in Kuwait and I might write something else every once in a while. I'm a college student interested in many things but I've found that whenever I'm doing my nails it makes me feel different in some way, I can express myself and show my emotions on my nails. Some people don't appreciate it when girls take care of their nails but I think it's important as it defines her personality.

Nails Cafe Salon
Today September the fifth, my cousin and I decided to do our nails at the last minute, so I suggested to go to a new place in Al Shaab called Nail Cafe, fortunately we found an appointment at seven pm.
When we entered Al Shaab it was crowded with a narrow street, the Salon had only 2 parking spots, so we struggled to find a parking, though it was easy to find the salon, 1 point.
When we entered the salon it was quite with a modern clean atmosphere, we arrived at 6:30 pm but when they greeted us they told us to wait till 7 pm, so we started to choose a colour for our nails, they have a various collection of nail polishes such as OPI, China Glaze, essie and Orly, 1 point. I noticed the products they have which was nice but a bit over priced. I give them 1 point.
As I saw the menu to see the treatments they offer which was fairly good comparing to other salons I've been to, but the most unique treatment I saw was the N*4 Diabetic foot care where they take extra care for diabetic patients, they get 1 point.
When I started my treatment "Christen" was the one doing my nails, she used a new nail kit for me so I give them 1 point for hygiene, she was fairly professional but she did a good job, and on my left hand "Fae" took care of it and she was not bad, I give them 1 point.
The employees were nice and friendly as well and I give them 1 point, The prices are average comparing to other salons which means 1 point for that.
My rating for "Nails cafe Salon" is 8/10. I advice them to get parking valet or more parking spaces and more designs and nail arts.

Me Time Nail Spa Kuwait
On the 23rd of June, My friend and I decided to go to a Nail spa especially on the day I finished my finals. I called them a day ahead because I always stop by and they're almost always fully booked so I end up buying nail polish or products, so I never leave unsatisfied in a way and I give it 1 point.
It's located in avenues phase 2 upstairs close to spa time and another spa that means the area is quite and it's easy to find parking, when I was a bit late they did not contact me to confirm my appointment which I thought was strange, but as I arrived I was greeted by the counter as they obtained my contact information to notify us if they had any promotions and entered the spa to be seated with your own small T.V and receiver. The chair rubs your back in a way that feels like a human is giving you a massage, unlike the other salons where the chair shakes you till you feel sick and dizzy. So I give it 1 point for parking, 1 pint for atmosphere, 1 point for taking my information to contact me, 1 point for hospitality, 1 point for new equipment.
The place was modern and clean and they used a new set of nail kit which I give 1 point for hygiene, the employees are nice and I had Jhoy to do my nails, even though she's a professional but when I kept telling her not to cut the cuticles she did them anyway which was irritating, but overall she was good and I give her 0.5 point. The prices where amazing comparing to the service provided and comparing to other salons and I give it 1 point for that.
So at the end my rating for "Me Time nail spa Kuwait" will be 8.5/10.
My advice is that they should hire more staff because every time I go it's fully booked and when I look inside there are empty chairs, but I do recommend this salon.

20.24K Nails Spa
On March 26th 2011 my cousin and I were in avenues, after watching a movie we were walking around phase one and we stumbled upon 20.24K Nails Spa, we went inside and saw the receptionist and we asked for an appointment, although there were only 3 people in the salon they said they were fully booked but the person who had an appointment was late so they took us.
The Salon's concept was nice, it's furnished as if we were in a vault and surrounded by gold bars. It was a nice atmosphere, we looked around to see the products that they provide and they have a good amount of variety of nail polish brands, I give it 1 point. I chose the Essie turquoise and my cousin chose Zoya red-violet but as we sat down it took them 10-15 minutes to actually serve us and there ware only 3 employees!!
when she came to do my nails she opened a new set of nail kit which I give it 2 points. The women that did our nails were both nice but they didn't bother to ask us for beverages, and the one who did my nails kept getting up and make calls to check if customers are confirming their appointments which was unprofessional! they both took a long time to do our nails and they weren't really good and ruined my cousins toe nails!!
notice the application of the nail polish |
at the end when I went to pay I was shocked of the price, but it was partially my fault for not looking at the prices before we did our nails.
in conclusion my rating to the salon is 1 point for parking (avenues), 1 point for location (away from the noise), 2 points for hygiene and 1 point for variety polishes (BUT NOT SERVICES) so its a 5/10 although it has so much potential if the owner took care of it.

The dangers of “Black henna”
What is Henna? It’s a plant that has fragrant reddish flowers, prepared from the dried leaves of this plant and used for temporary tattoos and hair colouring.
Black Henna: mix of Henna and Indigo leafs giving the surface of the mixture a blue colour.
Artificial Black Henna: mix of PPD and Henna, if the mix is left you’d notice the black dye drains from the mixture.
Unfortunately on February 25th I decided to go a beauty salon and put “Black Henna” on my hand because the normal Henna is light orange and takes a long time for it to dry and become dark. I have asked the stylist if the Black Henna had black hair dye in it and she replied NO! and it dries within 15-20 minutes.
After half an hour I washed my hand and it looked like a tattoo, but the next day it started stinging a bit so I used a cooling cream called ”savlon”. The day after my hand was red and had small blisters, I iced it then I went to the hospital were the doctor prescribed me “riavate” and antihistamine pills, I only used the ointment for two days because I had allergic reaction to it causing my hand to swell in a way I wasn’t able to bend my hand to do anything.
When I started having numbness in my pinky I stopped using “riavate” and used “alfacort” instead, but at that time the blisters became swollen and filled with water and it took time to heal. On March the 1st the swelling came down and I regained the function of my hand, but now I’m suffering from a burn scar! So I’m using “meebo” and “fucicort” because as the dermatologist said I’m suffering from a burn and allergy.
Today as I was writing this blog I did some research to know the ingredients of Black Henna and its dangers, in the artificial Black Henna PPD is used and means: Paraphenylenediamine, a chemical substance used as a permanent hair dye. Allergic reactions are mostly dermatitis to the upper eyelids or the rims of the ears. In more severe cases, there may be marked reddening and swelling of the scalp and the face. The eyelids may completely close!
Please stop using the Artificial Black Henna and I know it came the trend now in Kuwait were girls put it as a glove, think about your skin and the long term damages that leaves afterwards as well as the harm of chemicals used that may cause cancer in the future.
